Rutland Water Bathing Beach – Open For SWIMMING Tomorrow!

Rutland Water Bathing Beach will be open for SWIMMING tomorrow!

Set on a grassy bank, surrounded by woodland, this carefully chosen location at Sykes Lane is the result of years of consideration by Anglian Water Services.

Robert Aspey, Inland Access Officer for the Outdoor Swimming Society has worked tirelessly advising and encouraging access for swimmers and this will be a giant leap forward for any water authority.

No swimming has always been the rule at Rutland Water, but tomorrow the life-guarded bathing beach will be open for swimming providing a safe haven for wild swimmers across the region.

Local people are overwhelmingly in support of this project, a beacon of best practice that will see the lawns and facilities transformed during the summer.

Anglian Water has invested £20,000 to transform the north shore near its Sykes Lane Visitor Centre, with two hundred tonnes of sand now covering a 590ft stretch of shoreline alongside a 107 sq ft water area for people to paddle and swim, open weekends in July and August from 10am, then 7 days a week during school holidays. Anyone thinking of visiting the beach should give Rutland Water a call on 01780 686800 or 01572 653021 to check if it will be open. The office is normally open from 10am to about 5pm for answering phone calls.
